What is Trademark Tours Public Tour of MIT?

Trademark Tours Public Tour of MIT is the most popular walking tour of MIT. Our dynamic and knowledgeable student guides entertain and inspire with stories about MIT history and personal experience at the university they call home. The research and innovation that happens at MIT has a profound and direct impact on lives around the globe. Our tour highlights these stories and brings alive one of the most interesting campuses in the world.

Where does the tour start?

Our tour starts directly outside the main Kendall Square Red Line Subway Station. You can find your guide on the sidewalk in the center of Kendall Square. Our managers and signs are easy to spot between the large KSQ letter sculpture and Chipotle restaurant.

How much does the tour cost?

Tickets booked online cost $12 per adult, $10.50 per senior or student, $10.50 per child (12 or under). If you do not reserve tickets ahead of time, tickets cost $12 per person on site.

How do I make a reservation?

To book and print tickets online, please visit our Booking Page. From there, you can select your tour time, the amount of guests in your party, pay by credit card, and print out your tickets right at home.

Why should I reserve online?

When you reserve online, senior, student, and child discounts are available, saving you money! Also, you receive your ticket in advance, saving you time on the day of the tour. When booking online you receive advance tour instructions, and gain peace of mind in your planning.

What is included on the tour?

Our walking tour of MIT is a 70 minute adventure led by an MIT student. The tour is partly-scripted to be a theatrical, entertaining performance! Tour themes include MIT History, MIT Culture & Famous Alumni. The tour covers major landmarks including The Great Dome, The Infinite Corridor, Stata Center, The Green Building, Harvard (Mass Ave) Bridge, and Kendall Square.

What is your relationship with MIT?

Founded in 2006 by Harvard Alumni, we are a private company that employs a dozen MIT students per year. We are an official partner of The MIT COOP and The MIT Museum. Our founder sits as a Board Member with the Harvard Square Business Association. We are proud to serve Cambridge.

Who leads our tours?

Our tour guides are current MIT Students! When you join our tour, you’re getting the inside scoop from someone who knows the ins and outs of MIT. As current students, our guides are a resource to guests who want to learn more about the MIT experience.

How far will I walk on the tour?

The tour route is less than one mile. We walk at a leisurely pace through campus. Most of the terrain is very flat.

Is the tour handicap accessible?

Yes, the terrain of the tour route is handicap accessible at nearly every stop. If someone in your party has a disability, please contact us before the tour and we will do our best to serve you. We cannot provide wheelchairs on site.

Are there places to sit on the tour?

Yes, at the halfway point, the group will be given an opportunity to sit on the grass on the lawn outside the famous Great Dome, where MIT students graduate each Spring! Additionally many of the stops include convenient locations to sit, such as the Dertouzos Amphitheater oustide of the Stata Center.

Are there restrooms on the tour?

There are no restrooms along the route of the tour. You can find public restrooms in the Kendall Square COOP or Marriot Hotel, close to where the tour begins and ends.

Are tours ever canceled due to inclement weather?

We operate rain or shine from March 3 - Nov 25. During severe thunderstorms with lightning our public walking tours do close for the safety and comfort of our guests. Don’t worry - storms never last long in New England!

Is this a tour for prospective students?

Yes, however, it is important to note that we are not the MIT Admissions tour. We encourage all prospective students to visit the admissions office at some point on their visit to MIT. While our tour is geared toward guests of all ages from across the globe, prospective students can gain a lot of insight about the University and MIT culture. Your guide is a current student and is happy to answer your questions!

Is this tour suitable for children?

Yes! Our tour is scripted to entertain both adults and children. AAA Magazine has called our company “great for families!” We strive to serve guests of all ages, and families really enjoy our friendly, interactive tour guides!

Does the tour go inside any buildings?

Our tour does not tour the interior of the buildings. We show our guests all the key highlights of the MIT campus, leaving time to absorb the rich history and lore given at each stop. To go inside buildings consider booking a private tour.

When are tours running?

Tours of MIT are now offered 7 days a week, year-round! Please view our calendar for our full and current schedule.

Is there parking?

There is limited street parking in the area, but there are several parking garages close to our tour. We suggest taking public transportation if and when possible. The closest subway station is the Kendall Square Redline T stop.

Do you offer private tours?
